According to James Kim here are the top 6 tips to optimize Social Media (Source).
These 6 tips are very good and these are my reasons why these should be 6 very important tips in a social media plan.
1. Build an Identity - This is extremely important and why it should be number onei on the list because ultimately this is what people will know you as. Having an Identity people enjoy is what will grow your popularity
2. Don't Just Talk, Listen - In the growth of social media this is vital. Social Media is a lateral platform. What that means is that you are no higher or lower than who you are reaching out to, you are on the same level as them. Therefore their opinion is just as important as yours (if not more important because they are your audience). Listen to what is popular around your campaign and build off of that, social media is ever changing just as society's culture.
3. Keep the Conversation Going - Social media is very interactive and therefore if you stop interacting your campaign will die out. While listening to your audience you must still respond to them and if you start a conversation continue it, make it popular, have it create buzz. Remember all social media is, is one giant conversation with the world.
4. Identify your Target - Know who you are really trying to connect to, this is important as well. A way to put this into perspective is think of how you would talk to your grandparents vs. how you would talk to your friends at a party. The way you would engage each of those people is very different and therefore if your target audience is college kids, speak to them as college kids not elementary school children. Also, stay up to date with what your target audience is in to because they are who you need to engage the most.
5. Go Big or Go Home - This is an interesting point, and a good one at that. You can't just expect people to like your page or follow your twitter. You need to show that you are the most important, and that you are also engaged in the conversation. Become involved and do it all the way!
6. Write Good Stuff: Content Matters - Writing valid and interesting material is very important because that is ultimately what you are judged on. Your identity is created from the content you are writing and what your thoughts are. No one wants to sound silly and stupid, so therefore being educated and writing clear coherent thoughts is what matters in the end.
